Tranmere is a suburb of Hobart, capital of Tasmania, Australia. The suburb is in the local government area of City of Clarence, and lies in close proximity to Howrah. It is named after a suburb of Birkenhead in the Wirral Peninsula in England. Tranmere is a riverside suburb, with views across the Derwent River to the Hobart city centre. It is mostly residential and is one of the fastest growing areas in southern Tasmania. Tranmere in Old Norse is ''Trani-melr'', meaning "Cranebird sandbank" or "sandbank with the Cranebirds".
